Crane Operations
TSI conducts training for both mobile and overhead cranes in accordance with all OSHA standards for both general industry and construction.
Rigging
In nearly every production environment, there are heavy loads to be moved, and it is the job of the riggers to make sure that those loads are safely connected to the lifting device, whether it is a hoist, a crane, or below the forks of a fork lift.
Rigging and weight handling are topics covered by multiple standards from many agencies, including ASME, ANSI, and OSHA. Determining the required level of training can be complicated.
TSI has several levels of rigging training to address your needs. Each of the courses shown to the left include all of the information needed to teach your employees how to rig loads safely and effectively. Each course is designed to build upon knowledge established in the previous course, although they can be taken independently if you have experienced riggers you would like to have certified. Just contact us and we’ll let you know what information we’ll need in order to allow the employee to take the advanced courses.
Rigging Awareness
Purpose: To prepare all employees to work safely in or around areas where overhead lifting is occurring.
Training Length: ~30 min.

Basic Rigging
Purpose: To prepare employees to assist certified riggers in preparing loads and rigging equipment, or to carry out routine lifts under the supervision of a certified rigger.
Training Length: 4 hrs.
Prerequisites: None
Training Objectives:
- RB-01: Review basic rigging safety precautions.
- RB-02: Review basic rigging vocabulary.
- RB-03: Review basic emergency and abnormal condition responses.
- RB-04: Discuss the proper usage and storage of wire rope slings
- RB-05: Discuss the proper usage and storage of chain slings
- RB-06: Discuss the proper usage and storage of synthetic web slings
- RB-07: Discuss the proper techniques for attaching slings to loads
- RB-08: Discuss the proper usage of rigging hardware, including hooks, shackles, and eyebolts
Qualified Rigger
Purpose: To train experienced rigging assistants to fill the duties of Qualified Riggers, including inspection of equipment, calculation of loads, and selection of equipment.
Training Length: 16 hrs.
Prerequisites:
- Basic Rigging or documented equivalent experience
- Pass a pre test demonstrating mastery of basic math including multiplication, division, and square roots

- RC-38: Demonstrate the ability to select the proper eyebolt for a given load
- RC-39: Demonstrate the ability to calculate the weight of a load given the type of material and the volume
- RC-40: Demonstrate the ability to sect and rig a load safely, given the material, volume, and container type
- RC-41: Demonstrate the proper use of hand signals to communicate with a crane operator

Advanced Rigger
Purpose: To teach advanced rigging techniques to certified or experienced riggers
Training Length: 6 hrs.
Prerequisite: Certified Rigger or equivalent experience
Training Objectives:

- RS-02: Review basic rigging safety precautions
- RS-03: Terminating and splicing wire rope
- RS-04: Use of wire clips, wedge sockets, and thimbles
- RS-04: Calculating loads when drifting
- RS-04: Calculating mechanical advantages when using multiple reeved blocks
- RS-04: Rigging and hoisting personnel
- RS-04: Multiple crane lifts
The Advanced Rigger Course is a 6 hour course that includes multimedia presentations as well as extensive lecture material. Included in our training package is:

Rigging Refresher
Purpose: To provide refresher training for certified and advanced riggers
Training Length: 4 hrs.
Prerequisite: Certified Rigger and/or Advanced Rigger or equivalent experience Training Objectives:
- RR-01: Review common rigging equipment and procedures.
- RR-02: Review rigging safety precautions.
- RR-03: Review basic rigging equipment inspection and selection criteria
- RR-04: Review limitations of rigging hardware, including slings
- RR-05: Review load weight estimation calculations and the selection of rigging equipment
- RR-06: Review requirements for hoisting personnel and other advanced lifts

Rigging Instructor
Purpose: To provide the knowledge and techniques required to make an experienced rigger an effective instructor. This course is identical to the “Train the Trainer” course for Certified/Advanced Rigger, but does not include the training materials package. This course is highly interactive; students will prepare and deliver short training segments in order to put into practice the powerful techniques we teach.
Training Length: 8 hrs.

Classroom TrainingRigging Instructor is an 8 hour interactive seminar that provides the student with the techniques they need to become an effective rigging instructor. Due to the interactive nature of this class, online presentation is not provided.
